See more birds with BirdsEye!!
Enter your sightings into eBird right from the field with BirdLog. You can even create checklists when there is no cellphone data coverage for later upload when you return to an area with cellphone or wifi.
BirdLog ANZ is the ideal bird field data recording tool for Australia and New Zealand. Forget about notebooks, pencils and sitting at your computer. Transform your bird sightings into eBird submissions to build your own lists while sharing your sightings and supporting conservation.
You’ll enter more lists with BirdLog and enter them more accurately. It is easy to tally birds as you go—and thus counting them more accurately, automatically capturing the time and duration, and using the device’s GPS and map interface for mapping precise sighting locations.
BirdLog was developed by active eBird users as a power app for submitting data into eBird. If you are not already familiar with eBird, we recommend that you visit ebird.org and register before using BirdLog the first time.
Here's what some birders are saying about BirdLog:
“I’ve waited for easy in-the-field data entry for years and this is it!” Mat Gilfedder, Australia eBird reviewer.
“The ability to record real-time bird observations in the field and have them flow directly into the eBird database has huge implications, not just for birders and eBird, but for citizen-science in general,” Brian Sullivan, eBird Project Manager.
BirdLog allows you to:
-- Plot the exact location of your sightings using your phone's GPS
-- Easily increment species counts with a single tap or search the checklist using 4-letter codes based on Australian or New Zealand common names
-- Create new personal locations or choose an existing hotspot or personal location for your checklist
-- Create checklists even when there is no cellphone coverage for later submission to eBird
-- Automatically keeps track of day and trip lists that you can email to yourself or friends
-- Enter birds quickly and easily as you see them using bird codes or full names
-- Scroll and review your checklist before submitting it
BirdLog is a universal app for crystal-clear use on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
Our company is committed to birds, the birding community and bird conservation. Every BirdsLog purchase you make directly supports the eBird project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
This version includes all of the species from Australia and New Zealand (plus outlying islands including Kermadec, Chatham, Auckland and Bounty. Our world version, called "BirdsEye BirdLog -- Worldwide" is available for birders who want worldwide coverage. The advantages of the ANZ version compared to the world version are that:
1) this list of birds in the ANZ version is restricted to just those species, subspecies and species groups that are known to occur in Australia or New Zealand, so the taxonomy takes up less memory and is faster to load and use in the field. This difference is hardly noticeable on newer iPhones but can make a meaningful difference on older (pre-4S) iPhones.
2) The ANZ taxonomy is based on the Clements list and uses eBird's common names in Australian and New Zealand English. In cases where New Zealand and Australian names are different, the names have been combined to avoid possible confusion.
3) The ANZ version uses the list of ANZ birds as the default list for creating offline checklists. This is handy when birding away from cell-phone coverage in the bush!
