★ Your Guide to Exploring Ontario's Wine Regions ★
You don’t have to be a wine lover to enjoy exploring Ontario’s 125+ wineries – all you need is a sense of adventure and an appreciation for Ontario’s natural beauty. And, once you taste the fantastic wines and meet the friendly folks who pour (no pun intended) their hearts into making Ontario wines, you’ll start planning your next trip. Fortunately for you, this app can help you do just that!
The app does more than just list the wineries and provide the standard information (addresses, hours of operation, public tours, and so on – though, naturally, it provides all that). It brings visiting wineries to life by telling the stories behind the wineries – things like the history of the property, information about the Terroir, and background about the founders. What makes the app unique is that it’s by an Ontario travel writer who, in addition to loving Ontario wines, has experience pointing out interesting, unexpected things to see and do along the way – things you might otherwise overlook.
Because it’s a big province with a number of distinct wine regions, to get the most out of your trip, a bit of planning beyond just looking at a map is a good idea. Say, for example, you’re thinking of visiting a few wineries in Prince Edward County. Using the app, you can sort for wineries just in that area. Then, once you’ve identified them, you can use the app to learn about what amenities they offer. So, for example, maybe you’re thinking of bringing a picnic – with the app you can easily find out which wineries welcome picnickers – and whether you can purchase a glass of wine there to enjoy with your picnic!
Or maybe you figure you’ll visit a few wineries in Beamsville and would like to end the day at a winery with a restaurant. Using the app you not only find out which have restaurants, thanks to a links to their menus provided in the app entries, you can even start thinking about what you might order!
If you’re on a motorcycle trip through the Niagara Region check out the Motorcycling in Wine Country entry for suggestions on routes you might find especially enjoyable rides.
The app also gives you ideas about special events and activities going on in Ontario’s wine regions. Planning a winter getaway? Why not the Niagara Icewine Festival? Or maybe you’re interested in taking a cooking class? You’ll find information about the wineries that have cooking schools.
Whether you've never visited an Ontario winery before, or have visited many and are looking for new ones to check out or new things to see and do in Ontario's scenic wine regions, this app is for you!
★ About the Author ★
Ingrid Sapona is a writer in Toronto. Her travel articles about Ontario have always had a wine and food focus. She's been published in both Canada and the U.S. Visiting Ontario wineries has been a hobby, if not obsession. So, writing an app to help others enjoy Ontario’s wine regions was a natural. (Talk about the ideal project -- one that involves exploring Ontario’s beautiful countryside, visiting wineries, chatting with people about winemaking, sampling wines, and writing about it all!)
